Andrea Petrlik

Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic was born in 1966 in Zagreb, Croatia. She graduated in graphic arts from the class of Professor Ante Kuduz, an academic painter at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Since 1995 she has been a member of HDLU (Croatian Association of Artists). She has produced 21 picture books with her own illustrations.

During her participation in UNESCO-BIB workshop held in Bratislava in autumn 2001, she finished the children's picture book, The Blue Sky, as the sole author. For her illustrations from this book she was awarded the Grigor Vitez award and the BIB (Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava) Gold Plaque 2003. The original works from The Blue Sky are part of an International Collection in Chihiro Art Museum in Japan. It is one of the biggest collections of picture book illustrations in the world. It consists of about 9,700 pieces created by 147 artists from 25 countries. In 2004, The Blue Sky was also translated and published in South Korea.

For the illustrations from Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, she was nominated for the IBBY Honour List 2002.

For Ciconia Ciconia, she received the Oita Biennial of Illustrations 2004 grand prize. Her illustrations are on postcards published by the edition house Inkognito from Germany.

Andres has taken part in several group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad.
