All Aboard for Bookstart

Front cover image of All AboardNational Bookstart Week is the annual celebration of Bookstart, the national programme run by the charity Booktrust, which gives a gift of free books to babies, toddlers and preschool children in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This year the programme is celebrated by a whole week of activities from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th June. This year's theme, All Aboard!, provides the perfect opportunity to share all your favourite stories, songs and rhymes about transport, journeys, travel and of course flights of the imagination.

To tie in with the year's theme, one of the illustrators who works with Child's Play, the brilliant Jess Stockham, has illustrated a book for Bookstart called 'All Aboard!'. The book features different types of transport - from zooming rockets to splashing boats! Child's Play International (Ltd.) has supported this year's event by publishing the booklet for Bookstart.

There are so many things you can do linked to this year's theme - open-air buses, hot air balloons, trains, boats - really, everything and anything to do with transport and travel!
There will also be a range of fantastic downloadable resources, including event posters, colouring and activity sheets and an additional Rhymetime sheet, available on the Bookstart website.

In 2010 the theme was At The Seaside and over 5,000 wonderful events were held for families up and down the country in bookshops, libraries and a range of other venues. You may have enjoyed taking part in the various exciting activities that took place including storytelling, rhymes, sing-alongs, games and much more.
